Dust Mites are a hardy and resilient bunch, with no natural enemies and a fast
breeding cycle. It will be almost impossible and very impractical to eliminate
them all from your home, but you can make definite improvements, to ensure they
don’t find the surroundings so ideal and to reduce their numbers in the
places where they are found in greatest numbers and do the greatest harm.
Washing
Wash sheets and blankets once a week at 60-70 degrees and dry them thoroughly.
Toys
Choose toys that are washable at the same hot temperatures.
Freezing
This is another alternative. If a 60 degree wash is not possible, try freezing
overnight and then wash as normal.
Humidity
Maintain a low humidity, between 30-50% relative humidity. Most hardware shops
sell hygrometers which measure humidity.
Airing
Turn back your covers in the morning and air the bed. The combination of natural
sunlight and airing will keep the bed fresher and cleaner.
Hoovering
If you do suffer from an allergy, particularly Asthma, stay out of the room when
cleaning or wear a protective face mask. Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter
bag, so the dust stays in the bag and doesn’t escape into the room again.
Hoovering the mattress may do more harm than good. If it isn’t powerful
enough it may only act to clog the mattress by drawing debris to the surface.
This could worsen your symptoms. Our cleaning system also incorporates a high
frequency vibration unit, which together with the powerful suction is far more
effective at it’s task.
